Making Proud Choices Workshops

An Evidence-Based Safer Sex Approach to HIV/STD and Teen Pregnancy Prevention

The NC School Health Training Center (NCSHTC) recommends a curriculum which reduces risk-taking for HIV, STDs and teen pregnancy.  The curriculum presented in this workshop is appropriate for youth 11 - 14; consists of 8 sessions; has been shown to be effective with African-American, White and Hispanic youth; and is fun and interactive.  Curriculum includes:

  • Knowledge about prevention of HIV, STDs and pregnancy
  • Positive attitudes and beliefs about condoms
  • Increased negotiation and condom use skills
  • Activities to instill pride and responsibility

Workshop participants should be:

  • Youth leaders who work directly with adolescents
  • Able to teach safer sex message
  • Able to implement curriculum once within 6 months and a second time within first year
  • Willing to participate in an evaluation
  • Able to attend entire workshop

This is a free workshop presented by the NCSHTC with funding from the Teen Pregnancy Prevention Initiatives (NCDPH).
