How to Be an Ally to LGBTQ Youth Workshops

Interested in becoming a trainer for How to Be an Ally to LGBTQ Youth?

Prerequisites to attending this FREE training:

  • Come as a team - 1 LGBT trainer comfortable with being out in their school system and 1 counselor, social worker or other mental health care professional who has attended a recent ASIST training workshop or other suicide prevention professional development.
  • Commitment - Upon completion of this 16-hour T4T, participants must agree to provide two, 7-hour training sessions in your region within 6 months.

Training objective - Increase personal knowledge and comfort in communicating about the following issues:

  • Describing the experiences of sexual and gender minority youth in public schools.
  • Identifying the disproportionate rates of HIV transmission among young men who have sex with men.
  • Explaining the higher rates of suicide, suicide attempts, and self-destructive behaviors among LGBTQ youth.
  • Modeling how to be an ally in the school setting.
