Darkness to Light Plus Workshops

The NC School Health Training Center (NCSHTC) and the NC Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) are providing a series of regional workshops for Darkness to Light Plus, a child sexual abuse prevention program for school personnel.  The 3-hour, nationally-known program has been expanded to five hours to help schools analyze policies pertaining to prevention, reporting and access to children.

The NCDPI Title V Grant provides funding for:

  • 5-hour training
  • Workbook and other materials
  • Lunch
  • Substitute pay for instructional staff

Who should attend?

  • Participating schools should send a 3-member team composed of a teacher, counselor or nurse, and the administrator who approves volunteers.  (Please bring a copy of your policies regarding access to children, if available.)

Workshop participants will be able to:

  • Explain the prevalence and devestating effects of child sexual abuse
  • Describe the relationship between child sexual abuse and violent crime, teen pregnancy, and substance abuse
  • Overcome barriers to recognizing and reporting abuse
  • Apply the tools of choice, personal power, compassion, and becoming conscious of being a steward of children
  • Execute the steps to protect children by preventing, recognizing, and reacting responsibly
  • Analyze school policy on child protection, adult access to children, and assistance for survivors

This is a free workshop presented by the NCSHTC with funding from NCDPI.
